Learn About Community Science This Week!

Community or citizen science engages individuals throughout a community to help monitoring to be done at much larger scales, and to include multiple factors and interactions that scientific studies often miss. Just by living by the lake you have collected local knowledge and useful information, whether consciously or not, and we want to hear what you have to say. Participation in these programs can contribute to the health of Pigeon Lake by providing your voice to the discussion, no matter your level of scientific experience or knowledge. This also makes sure that your shoreline, neighborhood or part of the lake is accurately represented in the data being collected.

There are many different communities surrounding Pigeon Lake, each having some stake and influence in the health of the area. We want diverse participation in community science, expanding the data to show abnormalities or consistencies in monitoring. Participation from different ages, backgrounds, beliefs and upbringings are all welcomed and encouraged. And the more people getting involved, the more awareness and stewardship is spread, fostering a caring and environmentally conscious community that is more resilient to changes in the environment that we all love.

Join us through our social media this week, to learn about the community science programs running through PLWA and the small things you can do, to be a part of this already inspiring community!
