Secchi Dip-In Week
Secchi Dip-Ins is an event run by North American Lake Management Society (NALMS), where volunteers across North America take a Secchi Disk and measure the water clarity. This is all uploaded and able to be viewed through NALMS website. This effort to get information helps not only local efforts to understand lake health, but bigger picture understandings of land use in association with lake health. The project benefits from more people participating in this observation, as this can show abnormalities in certain locations within the lake, and in comparison to other lakes and locations.
Here at Pigeon Lake Watershed Association, we are celebrating Secchi Dip-In Week this week (July 21-26th), where we are focusing on promoting this project. PLWA have secchi disks that can be used, so consider adding your observations to this larger effort to gather scientific data about lake health. You can email us info@plwa.ca if you want more information about volunteering or to start your contributions to community science! The more people involved the better we can improve, adapt and understand the lake we love.
