Pigeon Lake Water Levels and Precipitation - Interactive Dashboard
This interactive dashboard below has lots of great information relevant to the current and historic lake levels!
This tool takes into account data from multiple sources. Water levels are collected from the Hydrometric station from Pigeon Lake Provincial Park, and precipitation is calculated using a proxy formula, where precipitation levels reported by stations within closer proximity to our watershed are weighted higher than more distant locations. This can account for variation you may find from other sources on annual precipitation amounts at Pigeon Lake.
The threshold lines for stop log-out represent the water level at which a log would be removed from the weir, to encourage outflow from the lake to prevent flooding. The stop-log would be returned to the weir once the water levels have returned to 850.01m. The stop log being in place is the default position, and would only be removed when levels exceed the stop log-out threshold.
Weir spill represents the water level that is required for there to be water spilling over the weir and outflow from Pigeon Lake.
The year range can be adjusted to demonstrate water levels for a more specific time period, or defined events can be selected using the buttons, for example “2002 drought era”. Hover your mouse over specific time points to display specific information at that time.
